Are you an enthusiastic fan of canoeing? If the answer is yes, then definitely Sun Dolphin Mackinaw SS Canoe (Navy, 15’6″) is the right choice for you. I purchased this online over the summer for a good time with my family and I was overwhelmed by how good it is.
I have handled several other canoes that are not comparable to this. It well fitted my kid, my lovely wife, and myself comfortably and in my opinion is the best ultralight tandem canoe on the market. This exact model weighs just 104 lbs.
The canoe is well designed to ensure you assuredly have a great time in the water for everyone on board. We all fondly loved it. The color I got was Blue; a favorite of my wife. It comes in other colors and you can check them out on Amazon.
The seats are White and very useable. I will discuss the pros and cons of this product through the experience I had with it.
What I Liked About It
A cool feature, Sun Dolphin Mackinaw SS Canoe was designed with an extra under-seat dry storage compartment which I found very efficient for placing any luggage you may have onboard dry and safe.
This is rare on other canoes making it stand out amongst them.
It also has a small side compartment where you can keep your small valuables such as wallets and keys.
Sun Dolphin Mackinaw SS Canoe is well fitted with luxurious seats. I know this can be a key feature most people forget to look at. But it is very significant for your comfort and convivence in the canoe.
I am a fan of having a drink by my side and wouldn’t want to spill my favorite beverage. Under the middle seat, a cooler if tactically positioned to help keep the drink cool as you travel.
Maximum Load
I must say it the canoe was comfortably accommodating in term of weight capacity.
The canoe can hold up to 800 pounds of weight is pretty impressive. You can carry your luggage as well as paddlers and the canoe will be able to withstand even rough waters.
All day we loaded the canoe with almost 800 pounds of weight. The canoe is very stable and does not topple easily.
The canoe was at its ultimate performance giving a marvelous experience and was able to withstand rough waters.
Material
Another cool feature, the Sun Dolphin Mackinaw SS Canoe is fitted with protective rub-rails wisely keeping the hull away from damage as a result of friction with any object.
The canoe is made of High-Density Polythene; a strong and durable type of plastic. From the shop I bought, I was given a warranty for two years, which I find very generous. For all those who are sensitive about the warranty.
What I Disliked About It
Despite everything, I didn’t like the high maintenance costs associated with the type of material used to build the canoe.
I found it expensive compared to other material like aluminum.
Paddles Not Included
Another negative part of this canoe is that you have to buy paddles separately. It was quite disappointing as you have to part with an extra coin you did not plan for. I recommend that you also buy these paddles.
In the summer, because of the high temperature, the canoe gets quite hot which can get very uncomfortable.
In my opinion, Sun Dolphin is absolutely the best canoe you can get for its price range. The hustle of buying the paddles will not prevent you from assuredly having a safe and adventurous experience with your buddies or family.
Do not hesitate to buy this boat, just remember to get safety vests, paddles, and probably an anchor.
